Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, 20th year, 2 to 21 March 2012, presented by Bank of Melbourne Tour highlights (itinerary may be changed without notice – read more)

A Chocolate Mouthful is part of the official calendar of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2012

Inspired by the beauty of Melbourne, this walking tour will encompass all aspects of chocolate – from the consumption to the technicalities of artisan chocolates – without getting messy.

The tour will begin with a relaxed morning tea at the Koko Black salon in the Royal Arcade. In this venue within Melbourne's oldest arcade, we will savour the wonderful treats made at the store and experience one of its decadent drinks. A Koko Black chocolatier will enlighten us with their knowledge and, through their handmade chocolates, perhaps reveal the secrets to their inspiration. For anyone aspiring to be a chocolatier, this is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have before embarking on your career.

The tour will continue at Cacao Fine Chocolates in the boutique surrounds of the GPO, where the chocolates resemble artworks, almost too beautiful to be eaten (a fear that can be overcome, however). Hear the Cacao story and what sets them apart from other chocolates in Melbourne.

Our next destination will be Gânache Chocolates on Collins Street, where master chocolatier Arno Backes will treat you to some of his delicacies. With more than 25 years of chocolate-making in Europe and Australia, Arno's chocolates are true morsels of pleasure.

Then onto Haigh's Chocolates in the Block Arcade. Here in the beautiful "Block", we will be treated to 4 generations of chocolate-making history. Savouring chocolates in this glorious environment is the perfect prelude to lunch.

Had enough (of chocolate)? Well, make sure you leave space for lunch at Olio Cucina in Block Place. A glass of beer, wine or soft drink, plus a main meal and tea, coffee or hot chocolate to finish should leave you feeling replete.
