Information regarding Novel Coronavirus

Updated 2nd November 2020

Tours will recommence from 1st December 2020

Following the recent State Government announcements regarding easing of restrictions we plan to recommence our walking tours from 1st December 2020.  This time will enable us to work with all of our partners to ensure we can provide the best and safest experience possible for you.

Below you can read about the approach we are taking to maintain health and hygiene standards and ensure the safety of staff and guests.  If you have any questions about this please don’t hesitate to contact us.

In summary, the requirements mean:

  • We can have a maximum group size of 10 participants plus the guide
  • Everyone must wear face masks while on the tour.  These can be removed when you are having the tasting experiences
  • The group must be social distant
  • We will also adhere to the requirements of our partners, e.g. limits to how many people can go into a store

We have changed our Cancellation policy to enable you to cancel your booking at the last minute with a full refund if you or one of your group is unwell.

Chocoholic Tours accredited as Covid Ready

We are delighted to have earned Covid Ready accreditation from the Australian Tourism Export Council.  This means that our Covid Plan has been assessed and approved to provide appropriate protection for our guests and staff when on our tours.

We’re working towards being ready to recommence tours as soon as the lockdown is eased so please watch this space for further updates.

Chocoholic Tours' Physical Distancing and Hygiene practices | Updated 2nd November 2020

We are ready to welcome you back to explore the chocolatiers of Melbourne with confidence.  Your health and wellbeing are at the forefront of everything we do and will enhance your experience with Chocoholic Tours.

Our Covid safety protocols mean that we have implemented enhanced procedures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic so that you can book our tours with peace of mind.

This plan outlines the changes made to processes and procedures to ensure we are taking all reasonable steps to provide as safe an experience as possible for staff, guests, and business partners during our Melbourne walking tours.

This plan will be reviewed regularly, in particular in response to any changes in government guidelines.

Chocoholic Tours has received guidance via the Australian Tourism Export Council, Tourism Australia, the Victorian Chamber of Commerce, and the Department of Health and Human Services Victoria‎.

We have followed checklists to ensure a thorough review of our processes and procedures.  The areas of focus have been:

  • The booking process and communications with guests – ensuring that the process is digital and contactless and information is provided to guests at the appropriate time
  • Hygiene and Physical Distancing on tours – adapting our tours and tasting experiences to ensure compliance with Hygiene and Physical Distancing requirements
  • Wellbeing of staff and guests on tours – developing processes to ensure unwell staff and guests do not attend our tours

Wellbeing of staff and guests:

Guests will be asked to answer pre-tour screening questions.  This will give you, and all fellow guests, an added level of assurance.  Guests with any symptoms of illness prior to the tour will be requested not to join the group and specific cancellation and refund conditions have been implemented to reflect this.  We have also implemented processes for when guests or staff become unwell during a tour so we are able to respond quickly and discretely to any such event.

Staff will also complete a pre-tour screening questionnaire.  They are required to declare any signs of illness, will not perform duties if unwell, and will be supported by Chocoholic Tours during this time.

Physical Distancing:

Physical Distancing measures are in place wherever practicable.  For instance, maximum tour numbers have been reduced to enable Physical Distancing and our processes ensure that we are applying Physical Distancing for the recommended periods of time.

We are operating in conjunction with our partners’ requirements to ensure appropriate Physical Distancing during the tour and during the tasting experiences.   All tasting experiences have been amended to ensure appropriate space, cleanliness and hygiene whilst ensuring guests will still have a unique experience.

Guests can be assured that the most suitable Physical Distancing and hygiene practices will be adhered to on our tours.  For example, staff have been issued with their own equipment kit which ensures they are not sharing with other staff.  Guests are not required to borrow any equipment from us.

Our team will ensure the highest levels of cleaning, hygiene and personal protection options so that guests can join our tours with confidence.

Hygiene and cleaning:

As food businesses, uncompromising cleaning and hygiene practices are already a requirement for all of the stores we visit.

Chocoholic Tours provides additional cleaning, sanitising and hygiene practices, ensuring cleaning of reusable equipment and appropriate food handling.  We use Government recommended cleaning, disinfectant and sanitisation products, routines and monitoring.

Chocoholic Tours will ensure that guests and staff are frequently reminded to adopt protocols for regular hygiene practices.  Hand Sanitiser will be made available throughout our tours.

Response to easing of restrictions

You may have seen that the Victorian government have announced a plan for the staged easing of restrictions during June.   We’re very excited about this prospect however we are seeking further guidance on the measures in place for walking tours and discussing our plans with our partners.  Once we are happy that our tours can run in a safe manner for everyone we’ll be back on the streets of Melbourne!

We are hopeful that we will have tours running in late June.

Previous update on 21st April 2020

While our business has been temporarily impacted, we have solid plans in place to weather the storm. Although we do not receive any external funding, we have the capacity to get through this period of uncertainty and we will be ready to return to as soon as it is safe to do so.

As we navigate our way through this uncertain time, we appreciate and thank you for your support. We will be back!

What have we been doing during the lockdown?

We are focussed on providing tours that celebrate the fantastic chocolatiers Melbourne has to offer.

Our office staff are on hand to respond to any queries via phone or email. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have questions or concerns.

We have taken the opportunity to review our tour itineraries. We are ensuring that, once we return, our walking tours not only provide a safe environment for you to discover the fantastic chocolate on offer in Melbourne but also visit some of our most iconic locations.

We will be following Government guidance but some of the things we are also reviewing include ensuring all guides have food hygiene certificates and current Working With Children Checks for our school tours, group sizes may be reduced further which means you’ll have an even better chance to get to know your fellow chocoholics!  And, we’re looking at removing the minimum number of guests on a tour so you can have more confidence that your tour will go ahead.

Future tour bookings

We understand this is an uncertain time and nobody knows what the year will bring. We want to advise our guests that there are no cancellation fees if you need to cancel a booking for any reason more than three days beforehand. Should you need to cancel at the last minute due to Covid-19 we will provide a full refund.

Gift card purchases

Gift Cards purchases are a great way to support our small business in the short term.

All of our gift cards have a three-year expiry.  Therefore, once we emerge from the restrictions, the person you are buying it for has plenty of time to redeem it.

Our gift cards are emailed to you instantly so they’re a great last-minute gift option and, with zero contact, a safe way to provide a gift they can look forward to.

Got a gift card?

All of our gift cards purchased after 1st November 2019 have a three-year expiry.  Therefore, you have plenty of time to redeem them for a tour.

All our gift cards purchased before 1st November 2019 have a 12-month expiry. As long as you use the gift card to make a booking before the expiry date, the booking can be for any tour in the future.
